Gale Duane Lansman, 80, of Columbia, Missouri, passed away at 1:30 a.m., Monday, August 23 rd , 2021, at Harry S. Truman Memorial Veterans' Hospital.
Gale was born at his home in Denison, Iowa to Ewald Teenus and Margaret Laverne (Bristol) Lansman on December 19 th , 1940.  He attended school in Denison through second grade, then went to school at Ute through his junior year of high school.  He moved his senior year to Harlan, Iowa and the Omaha Herald newspaper announced his transfer as a rising basketball star for the Harlen community. He graduated from Harlan High School in 1959 and later attended Texas Tech University. With his basketball skills and 6'5" height, Gale, nicknamed "Stilts", played four years of varsity basketball in high school and played semi-professionally for the Omaha Mustangs his senior year of high school and several years after high school. Gale volunteered and served in the Army 1 st Infantry Division (The Big Red One) from 1961-1964, attaining the rank of sergeant. A veteran of the Vietnam War, Gale deployed as one of the first 1,500 "advisors" that President Kennedy sent to South Vietnam. He served in the Cryptography Department of the Military Assistance Advisory Group (MAAG) for 13 months in Vietnam and he taught cryto and teletype after the war in Georgia. He married Reginae "Jeannie" Journot on May 6 th , 1967 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Parsons, Kansas.
He worked in the consumer electronics industry for Zenith, Whirlpool, Curtis Mathis and Colortyme for many years holding various positions including national credit manager, regional sales manager, and vice president of finance before  purchasing the Parsons, Kansas Subway franchise in 1995.  For 25 years, Gale and Jeannie owned and managed the Subway sandwich restaurants in Parsons and Chanute, Kansas retiring in 2018. Gale's hobbies included old cars, traveling, playing cards and fishing.
Gale's faith in God and strong family values made him a man of integrity and a great husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend. He was a wealth of knowledge and could talk to you about anything as he had lots of life experiences.  He was known for his interesting stories, good sense of humor, quick wit, and love for his family. His Danish heritage created a warm hospitality when hosting visitors in his home or offering a helping hand or warm smile to anyone he met throughout his day.  He was famous for his popcorn and pancakes which was a generational Lansman family tradition. Gale was a tall, strong man, but felt at home with small babies and children.  Gale and Jeannie fostered 12 newborn foster babies after raising their 4 children.
On May 6, 1967, Gale and Jeannie (Journot) Lansman were united in marriage at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Parsons.  They met in Omaha, Nebraska and were blessed with 54 years of marriage living in Oklahoma, Texas, Arkansas and Missouri, having 4 children and 10 grandchildren.
Gale is survived by his wife, Jeannie, of the home.

Sister-in-law: Millie Lansman, Papillion, NE;
Brother-in-law: Arley Journot, Parsons, KS;
Brother-in-law and sister-in-law: Wayne and Judy Cupp, Parsons, KS;
Sister-in-law:  Patty Rich, Parsons, Kansas;
10 grandchildren:  Jonathan, Joanna, Jordan Lansman
Gabrielle, Natalie, Samantha and Devin Fedel
Lydia and Tyler Conn
Peter Lansman
and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father, Ewald Teenus Lansman and mother, Margaret (Bristol) Lansman, and twin brothers, Roger and Rodney Lansman; sisters-in-law, Ellie Lansman, Patricia Journot, Leona Journot and Kate O'Neal; brothers-in-law, Pete Journot and Jim O'Neal.
The funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, August 28, 2021, at the St. Patrick Catholic Church with Fr. Curtis Robertson officiating.  Burial will follow at the Mt. Olivet Cemetery at Parsons with military honors given by the Brown-Bishop Post #704, Veterans of Foreign Wars in Parsons.  The Rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m., Friday, August 27, at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons.  The family will receive friends following the rosary.
