Gary L. Nickelson, 82, of rural Parsons, passed away Thursday, January 27, 2022, at his home.

He was born on February 20, 1939, to Fred and Josephine (Faulhaber) Nickelson in Mapleton, Kansas.  He grew up and attended school in Mapleton and attended high school in Blue Mound and Fulton, Kansas.

Following high school, Gary served in the United States Army for three years.  He then worked at the Raytown Police Department for two years.  For 39 years, Gary was a security guard at the Kansas Army Ammunition Plant in Parsons.

He was a member of the Church of the Latter-Day Saints.

On April 18, 1969, he and Bonnie Mae Richmond were united in marriage in Miami, Oklahoma.  Bonnie preceded him in death on March 9, 2021.

Survivors include:

Two sons – Joe Nickelson (Carole) of Parsons, Kansas

James Nickelson (Carrie Cure) of Fort Scott, Kansas

One daughter – Monica Nickelson of North Carolina

One step-daughter – Debbie Claspill of Plainville, Georgia

Twelve grandchildren

Seven great-grandchildren

He was preceded in death by his wife, Bonnie; and one great-grandchild.

There will be a memorial service at 10:30 a.m., Monday, February 7, 2022, at Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home of Parsons.  Friends may call at the funeral home to sign the register from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Sunday.
