Gary L. Sevart, 70, of Parsons, passed away at 10:12 p.m., Monday, September 12, 2016 at his home.
He was born July 13, 1946 in Pittsburg, Kansas to Harold Christopher and Mary Jo (Volmer) Sevart. He attended St. Patrick's Catholic School until 11th grade. He then attended Parsons High School.
After high school, he worked for a time on the Katy Railroad and Montgomery Ward until attending Aviation Mechanics School in Houston. He then worked at S.E. Taft Commercial Heat and Air in Houston. After returning to Parsons in 1975, he worked for several years at Montgomery Ward. In 1979, Gary became owner and operator of Sevart Heating and Cooling and Appliance Repair. He retired in November of 2015.
He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Parsons and Cursillo. Gary also served on the City of Parsons Mechanical Board for several years. He enjoyed playing bass guitar in many bands, hunting, camping, attending concerts, and tinkering with anything mechanical. Gary also enjoyed flying after earning his pilot's license.
He and Melvetta Forkner were married on September 20, 1981 in Parsons. She survives of the home.

He was preceded in death by his father, Harold Sevart, on May 10, 2014; his mother, Mary Jo Sevart, on March 9, 2016; one daughter, Christi Lynn Sevart; two grandchildren, Brooke Elizabeth Easterling and Jacinta Marie Sevart; and one brother, Stephen Douglas Sevart.
The funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, September 16, 2016 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Parsons. The rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m., Thursday, at Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons. The family will receive friends at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, immediately following the rosary at the funeral home.
