Gaylon Ray Rankins, 69, of rural Altamont, passed away at his home on Wednesday, October 17, 2018.

He was born in Altamont, Kansas on October 29, 1948 to Eugene E. and Imogene I. (Raymond) Rankins.  During childhood, he was raised in Altamont by his maternal grandparents and attended local schools.

During his life, Gaylon lived throughout Oklahoma and Kansas.  He was self-employed for many years and enjoyed working outside.  He retired from Ruskin Manufacturing.

Gaylon enjoyed coyote hunting and spending time with his friends.  He also enjoyed working on small engines, tinkering in his shop, gardening, and caring for his many animals.

He is survived by his significant other, Terri Ashby, of the home; daughters, Amey Kelly of Porum, OK and Crystal Essig of Sierra Vista, AZ; sons, Gaylon Collins of Vinita, OK and Jayson Davis of Cherryvale, KS; brothers, Gail Rankins of Evesham England, Gary Rankins (Vickie) of Altamont, KS, Alfred Rankins of rural Altamont, KS, and Greg Rankins (Angie) of rural Altamont, KS; sisters, Charolette Irvine of Platte City, MO and Cindy Vanderford (Ronnie) of Altamont, KS; and numerous grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

It was Gaylon's request to be cremated with no funeral service.  His ashes will be scattered at a later date.  A gathering for family and friends will be at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, October 28, 2018 at his home.

Cremation has taken place under the direction of the Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Altamont.
