George D. Allen, 68, of Parsons, died at 2:13 p.m., Saturday, May 14, 2011, at his home. He had been in failing health.

He was born May 31, 1942, in rural McCune, Kansas, to Ralph and Lelia Pauline (Robbins) Allen. He grew up and attended schools in McCune and was a graduate of McCune High School.

Through the years he worked at Vac-Co-Hy Printing in Girard, as a millwright at Wilson Brothers Walnut Lumber Company, and as a certified welder at Ruskin Manufacturing in Parsons from 1981 through his retirement in 2006.

He was a member of the Westside Christian Church in Parsons. He enjoyed woodcarving, metal crafting, and working in his yard. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

He and Mary Ruth Wilson were married November 18, 1961, in McCune, Kansas. She survives of the home.

One Sister – Phyllis Baker and husband, Bob Brainard Palm Bay, FL

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Ralph Allen, Jr.; and one sister, Leanna Smith.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, May 18, 2011, at Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-8:00 p.m., Tuesday, at the funeral home.
