George W. "Bill" Huber

George W. "Bill" Huber, 93, of Chetopa, died at 9:15 a.m., Sunday, April 6, 2014 at the National Health Care Center in Joplin, Missouri.

He was born July 12, 1920 in Quay County, New Mexico to George and Lorene (Columbia) Huber. He attended school in Idaho Springs, Colorado where he graduated high school. During World War II, he served in the United States Army in India and Burma.

Following his honorable discharge, he worked as maintenance manager at the Kansas Ordnance Plant in Parsons until his retirement.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Chetopa, Chetopa Masonic Lodge, Mirza Shriners in Pittsburg, and had formerly served one term as mayor and three terms as city councilman in Chetopa. For 26 years, he had also served as secretary-treasurer for Oak Hill Cemetery in Chetopa. Through the years, Bill especially had enjoyed attending his annual army reunions.

In 1971, he and Shirley Sunderland were married in Jasper, Missouri. She survives of the home.

In addition to his wife, survivors include one son, Bill Laughlin and wife, Margie of Boise, ID; one daughter, Linda Hacking of Vernal, UT; five grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; and cousins, Dick and Barbara Sunderland of Carthage, MO.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Jim Huber, in 1964.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, April 10, 2014 at the Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Chetopa. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. Friends may call at their convenience at the funeral home after 10:00 a.m., on Wednesday.
