George Nelson Clarke, 79, of Parsons, died at 6:00 a.m., Thursday, December 28, 2006 at Elm Haven East Nursing Home in Parsons.
He was born July 5, 1927 in Parsons to Nelson Henry and Mollie Lee (Fischer) Clarke. He grew up and attended schools in Parsons graduating from Parsons High School in 1945. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1945 serving in the Great Lakes and San Francisco Bay area as Seaman 1st Class. He was discharged in 1946 in Norman, Oklahoma. He was employed by the Katy Railroad from 1947 through 1989 having worked as an engineer from September 1948.
In 1954, he and Norma (Belt) Churchill were married in Parsons. They divorced in 1959. On May 14, 1973, he and Betty L. (Irey) Clark were married at the Erie Federated Church. She preceded him in death on July 11, 2001.
His memberships included Wesley United Methodist Church, United Transportation; Elks BPOE Lodge No. 527; a 50 year member of the Parsons Masonic Lodge No. 117, A.F. & A.M.; Katy Golf Association and National Association of Retired & Veteran Railway Employees.

One Step-Son - Jerry L. Clark and his wife, Phyllis Cherryvale, KS

Eight Great-Grandchildren
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services are scheduled for 1:00 p.m., Saturday, December 30, 2006 at Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery in Parsons. The family will receive friends from 7:00 – 8:00 p.m., Friday, December 29, 2006 at Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home.
