George C. Howard, 95, of Parsons, died at 6:00 a.m., Monday, November 9, 2009, at the Good Samaritan Society in Parsons. He had been in failing health.
He was born July 5, 1914, in Hubbell, Nebraska, to George L. and Beulah G. (Pearson) Howard. During World War II he served in the U.S. Navy as an aviation metal crafter.
After his discharge from the Navy, he returned to Parsons where he owned and operated Howard's 21st Street Market for 25 years. Following urban renewal, he worked at Ruskin Manufacturing for 15 years until retiring.
Through the years, he attended the First Baptist Church in Parsons. He enjoyed fishing and was an avid baseball fan.
He and Roberta Jackson were married October 31, 1948, at the First Baptist Church in Parsons. She preceded him in death June 23, 2008.

One Son – Terry W. Howard & wife, Judy Parsons, KS
One Daughter – Robbie Huneycutt & husband, Gary Tulsa, OK
Six Grandchildren – Tracy Brownewell, Craig Brownewell, Tiffany Yarnell,
Kevin Brownewell, Sean Howard and Jaime Gonsalves
He was preceded in death by one brother, Forest; and two sisters, Fern and Alice.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, November 12, 2009, at Memorial Lawn Cemetery in Parsons. The family will receive friends from 7-8:00 p.m., Wednesday, at Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons.
