George J. Kibler

George J. Kibler, 61, longtime Altamont resident, passed away the afternoon of Sunday, January 31, 2021, at Woodridge Estates in Parsons.

George John Kibler was born on December 24, 1959, to Clifford Dale and Archalyn Irene (Jenkins) Kibler in Lamar, Missouri.  As a young boy he moved with his family to Altamont, where he grew up and attended school.  In 1978, George graduated from Labette County High School.

After high school, George attended Labette Community College for a time.  He then began a management career in the fast food restaurant industry, managing McDonald's and Hardee's restaurants throughout the state of Kansas.

He was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Altamont.  George enjoyed being involved in the Altamont community and helping others.  For over 25 years, George served on the Flag Day committee.  He also served as president of the Altamont Recreation Commission and the Senior Citizens Center.  In 1998, George started Gift of Love Christmas baskets for Altamont families and had also been active in the New Life Clothing store over the years.  He enjoyed flower gardening, bowling and playing bingo.

Survivors include:

One sister – Cathy Kibler (Clarence White) of rural Altamont, Kansas

One sister-in-law – Jean Magers of Peculiar, Missouri

Great niece – Samantha McClelland

Great nephew – Kameron White

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Chris Magers.

The funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, February 6, 2021, at the First United Methodist Church in Altamont.  Friends stop by the church to sign the register from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday.  Burial will take place at a later date at the Lake Cemetery in Lamar, Missouri. The funeral service can be viewed live on the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home Facebook page.   For all events, social distancing guidelines will be followed, including the requirement of face masks.

Memorials are suggested to Gift of Love Christmas Basket Fund.  These may be left at or mailed to Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home, P.O. Box 374, Parsons, KS  67357.
