George E. Mccready

George E. "Butch" McCready, 81, of Parsons, passed away at 11:35 p.m., Friday, September 23, 2022 at his home.

George Eugene McCready was born January 25, 1941 at Thayer, Kansas to George H. and Alice May (Smedley) McCready.  He grew up and attended school in Thayer and graduated from the Thayer High School in 1957.

In 1963, George moved to Parsons where he farmed, raising watermelon, cantaloupe and pumpkins throughout his adult life.  For several years he worked for the MKT Railroad on the section crew.  George played softball for many years.  He loved fishing and had been a member of the Big Hill Bass Masters from 1986 to the present.  He especially enjoyed spending time with his family.  For many years, Butch sold firewood throughout the area.  He also provided cherry wood to the Hickory Hole Restaurant for several years.  George had ran a bulk mail route for several years.

George was united in marriage to Loretta "Kay" Root on March 17, 1967 in Parsons.  George joined his wife, buddy and partner of 55 years, Kay who passed away July 17, 2022.

Survivors include:

Two Sons:  Randy (Denarae) McCready – Parsons, Kansas

Christopher (Jeanne) McCready – Pittsburg, Kansas

One Daughter:  Alice (Luther) Gamblian – Parsons, Kansas

19 Grandchildren

22 Great-grandchildren with one on the way.

One Sister:  Eva (Bill) Tucker – Humboldt, Kansas

Several Nieces and Nephews

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Kay, an infant son, George McCready, Jr.; a granddaughter, Brandi Gamblian and two great grandsons, Brian and Damien.

There will be a Celebration of Life beginning at noon on Saturday, October 15, 2022, at the McCready Home, 2807 Olive, Parsons.
