Rural Dennis

Georgia F. Scott, 90, of rural Dennis, passed away at 10:50 p.m., Wednesday, July 15, 2015 at Medicalodges Independence. She was born March 12, 1925 in Devon, Kansas to Bert Edgar and Elizabeth Belle Finney. She attended schools in San Antonio, Texas, Crestline, Columbus, and Parsons, Kansas. In 1976, Georgia earned a nursing degree at Labette Community College in Parsons. She and Darrel M. Hines were married in 1946. He preceded her in death in 1964. In 1979, she and William G. Scott, Jr. were married in rural Dennis. Georgia worked as a registered nurse at Coffeyville Memorial Hospital and the Katy Hospital in Parsons until retiring in 1988. In earlier years, she worked at Joske's of Texas, as a civilian employee of the United States Air Force in Tachikawa, Japan, as a stenographer at the social welfare office in Independence, Kansas, and the Parsons State Hospital and Training Center. She enjoyed birdwatching, making handmade quilts for her family and friends, woodcarving, painting in oils and watercolors, and loved animals. She was a member of the Dennis United Methodist Church, the VFW Auxiliary and American Legion Auxiliary in Independence, and former member of The Order of the Eastern Star, Cryptomeria Chapter, in Tachikawa, Japan. Survivors include: Husband – William Scott, Jr. of the home Three Children – David Hines and his wife, Pam Independence, KS Judy Orcutt Parsons, KS Deanna Alford and her husband, Ed Springfield, MO Three Stepchildren – Tom Scott Rural Dennis, KS Susan Vaverka and her husband, Vernon Rural Dennis, KS Janet Cruse and her husband, Clark Rural Parsons, KS Numerous Grandchildren, Great-Grandchildren, and Great-Great-Grandchildren She was preceded in death by three great-grandsons. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, July 20, 2015 at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons. The body will be cremated following the service with burial in Pleasant Hill Cemetery near Dennis at a later date. The family will receive friends from 7-8:00 p.m., Sunday, at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the Dennis United Methodist Church. These may be left at or mailed to Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home, P.O. Box 374, Parsons, KS 67357.
