Georgie Louise (Middleton) Omarkhail, 74, of Parsons, died at 9:30 a.m., Thursday, January 16, 2014 at the home of her son in rural Parsons.
She was born February 22, 1939 in Yazoo City, Mississippi to W. G. and Edith (Kirk) Middleton. As a young girl, she grew up and attended school in Yazoo City where she graduated high school.
From 1961 through 1964, she worked as a telephone operator for the Chesapeake and Potomac Telephone Company in Washington, D.C.
In July of 1962, she married Abdul Omarkhail. In 1969, they moved to Phoenix, Arizona where they bought a 7-11 franchise. In 1973, they sold the franchise and opened their own convenience store. They worked together for seven years until 1976 when they divorced. She then returned to Yazoo City with her children. In 1978, she graduated from Mississippi College where she majored in English and Art and minored in Secondary Education, Latin and Social Studies. She taught for four years and in 1982, due to federal budget cuts, was released from her teaching duties. In January of 1983, she opened a day care in her home until the summer of 1989. She then drove clients for the Yazoo County Welfare Department to and from their various appointments for 1 ½ years. In 1991, due to her failing health, she was forced to place her sister and mother that she had cared for into nursing homes. She then sold her home and moved into an apartment. In October of 1994, her mother was transferred to a nursing home in Altamont, Kansas while her sister remained in Mississippi. In March of 1995, she moved to Parsons, Kansas to be near family. While living in Parsons, Georgie had attended several churches and had shared her faith with many people as well. She touched many lives, family and friends alike.
