Gladys Marks La Forge, 93, of Parsons and formerly of St. Paul, passed away at 5:08 p.m., Saturday, April 2, 2016 at Elmhaven East Nursing Home in Parsons.
Gladys Irene Morris was born the third of ten children to parents Milton "Bob" and Anna Christine (Krashoc) Morris in St. Paul, Kansas on July 20, 1922.
She grew up in the St. Paul area where she attended school from 4th grade through high school. She was a 1940 graduate of St. Paul High School. After high school, she worked at Owens Department Store in St. Paul as a bookkeeper.
Gladys and Joseph Arnold Marks were married on June 3, 1941 in St. Paul. In 1943, they moved to Parsons after living a short time in California. They had four sons and one daughter. He preceded her in death on May 15, 1976.
On June 22, 1979, she and Francis J. "Pete" La Forge were married in Houston, Texas. Following marriage, the couple lived on "The Big Island" in St. Paul. He preceded her in death on October 30, 2006.
Gladys worked at the Kansas Army Ammunition Plant in Parsons, owned and operated Marks Liquor Store with her husband, Joe, and also worked in other liquor stores in Parsons.
She was an active member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Parsons, its Altar Society, and the Daughters of Isabella. She enjoyed bowling in leagues in both Parsons and Erie. Over the years, she made each of her children and grandchildren a cross-stitched quilt which is treasured by all.

In addition to her two husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents, one son, Joe Marks; two daughters-in-law, Becky (Long) Marks and Debbie (Overall) Marks; three brothers, Jack, Tom and Henry Morris; and three sisters, Frances Boyer, Alice Harrison, and Carole Grove.
The funeral Mass will be at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, April 7, 2016 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Parsons. Burial will be at St. Francis Cemetery in St. Paul. The rosary will be prayed at 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons where the family will receive friends immediately following the rosary.
