Gloria G. Pefley , 83, of Chanute, Kansas, died from injuries received in an accident at 11:30 a.m., on Monday, May 5, 2014 in Chanute.
She was born August 16, 1930 in Elgin, Illinois to Ernest and Gertrude (Hansen) Kober. As a young girl she attended school in Elgin until moving to Mound Valley prior to her senior year in high school. She was a 1947 graduate of Mound Valley High School and had attended one year of college.
On May 12, 1949, she and Arlin Pefley were married at the First Baptist Church in Mound Valley. Following marriage, they lived for a short time in San Francisco while he was serving in the United States Navy. Upon his discharge, they returned to Kansas where he became a minister in 1951. The couple pastored in various cities in Kansas until 1968. At that time, they began the Old Country Church Evangelistic Enterprises which is now the Faith Bible Church in Chanute.
Throughout her life she was active in church ministry. She enjoyed traveling, singing, playing the piano, working puzzles, playing Scrabble and computer games. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband, Rev. Arlin Pefley, of the home; one son, Steve Pefley and his wife, Cindy, of Cherryvale, KS; one daughter, Diane Pefley-Crawford and her husband, Vearl, of Moses Lake, WA; seven grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; one brother, Ernie Kober, Jr. and his wife, Cheryl, of Kansas City, MO; and two sisters, Shirley Miller and her husband, George, of Jonesboro, AR, and Trudie Kline and her husband, Mac, of Altamont, KS.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Debra Bishop, in 2009.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, May 9, 2014 at the First Baptist Church Annex Building at the corner of Forest and Elm Street in Chanute. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday at the Annex Building. Following the funeral, burial will follow at the Mound Valley Cemetery in Mound Valley, Kansas.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Faith Bible Church in Chanute. Memorials may be left at the church or mailed to the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home, P.O. Box 374, Parsons, Kansas 67357.
