Clara "Grace" Varwig, 87, of Parsons, Kansas, formerly of Bartlett, Kansas, died at 12:46 a.m., Friday, January 18, 2013, at Labette Health in Parsons.
She was born September 18, 1925, in Tishomingo, Oklahoma, to James and Anna Mae (Gilliam) Smith. As a young girl, she grew up in Tishomingo where she attended school and was a graduate of Tishomingo High School.
On February 10, 1946, she and Alfred H. Varwig were married in Lawton, Oklahoma. Following his discharge from the service, the coupled lived in Nebraska, Wichita, Decatur, Arkansas, and Siloam Springs, Arkansas. In 1998, they moved to Bartlett to be near family.
While living in Siloam Springs, she worked at IGA, Dairy Queen, and local nursing homes as a nurse's aide. She was a member of the Bartlett Christian Church. Grace enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, sewing and gardening.

One Son – Hank Varwig and his wife, Jean Ann Siloam Springs, AR
One Daughter – Brooka Landrith and her husband, Mike Bartlett, KS
Three Grandchildren
Four Great-Grandchildren
She was preceded in death by one son, Steve, in 1964; two brothers and four sisters.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 22, 2013, at Lake Creek Cemetery near Bartlett. Friends may call at their convenience Monday at the Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Chetopa.
