Guy R. Stapleton, 82, of Parsons, died at 7:40 p.m., Saturday, November 11, 2006 at the Good Samaritan Center in Parsons. He had been in failing health.
He was born November 5, 1924 in Highland, California to Fred Zachary and Marchie Miranda (Sprouse) Stapleton. He grew up and attended schools in Oswego.
He worked at Guy Jones Grocery in Oswego. He then served in the U.S. Navy during World War II from 1943-1945.
He and Winnifred P. "Winnie" Johnson were married June 15, 1947 in Columbus, Kansas. She preceded him in death on March 3, 2002. Following their marriage, they lived in Oswego until moving to Faulkner, Kansas, where they lived for one year. In 1951, they moved to Parsons. He served in the Army Reserves from 1950-1951.
For a time, he worked as an automotive mechanic for George Brown Garage and was the manager for Faulkner Grocery/Garage Store. He then worked at Parsons Motors for 21 years before starting his own business, Guy's Auto Repair. He retired in 1987.
His hobbies included fishing, hunting, gardening and collecting paperweights.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Ruby L. Strickland; and one brother, Leo E. Stapleton.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 15, 2006 at the First Assembly of God Church in Parsons. Burial will be in Oswego Cemetery with military honors given by the U.S. Army Honor Guard from Ft. Riley. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 14, 2006, at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons.
