Harold C. Sevart

Harold C. Sevart, 90, of Parsons, died at 2:20 p.m., Saturday, May 10, 2014, in the Emergency Room at Labette Health. He had been in his usual health and death was not expected. He was born August 3, 1923, in St. Paul, Kansas, to Henry and Cecilia (Richards) Sevart. He grew up in St. Paul where he attended schools and was a graduate of St. Francis High School. For a time, he worked in Olathe, Kansas, before being drafted into the United States Army in April of 1944. During World War II, he served under General Patton in the 80th Division of the 318th Infantry Regiment of the European Theater. Upon his honorable discharge in May of 1945, he was presented The Purple Heart and The Bronze Star. He and Mary Jo Volmer were married May 15, 1945, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in South Mound, Kansas. Following marriage, he attended Kansas State Teachers College of Pittsburg where he earned a degree in refrigeration and air conditioning. He then worked for International Harvester in refrigeration repair, and also for G & H Motors, later George Motors. He then owned and operated Sevart Refrigeration until his retirement. He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Parsons. He also was a member of the Elks BPOE Lodge No. 527, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the Disabled American Veterans. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping. Survivors include his wife, Mary Jo Sevart, of the home; one son, Gary Sevart and his wife, Melvetta, of Parsons, KS; one daughter, Brenda Ozier and her husband, Bill, of Parsons, KS; nine grandchildren, Leanne Kehres, Ronald Sevart, Lisa Easterling, Ryan Sevart, Aaron Sevart, Gregory Sevart, Geoffrey Sevart, Scott Ozier and Mallory Ozier; nine great-grandchildren, one sister, Marge Gillespie and her husband, Gene, of Enid, OK; and two sisters-in-law, Loretta Sevart of Parsons, KS, and Mary Lou Sevart of St. Paul, KS. He was preceded in death by one son, Stephen Douglas Sevart, on April 19, 1966; one granddaughter, Christi Lynn Sevart, on September 5, 1970; one great-granddaughter, Brooke Easterling; five brothers, Gene, Andrew, George, Joe and Richard Sevart; and two sisters, Alfreda Purdon and Pauline Schneickert. The funeral Mass will be at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 14, 2014, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Parsons. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. The rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, at Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons. The family will receive friends at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, at the funeral home.
