Harold R. Smith, 84, of Erie, died at 6:20 a.m., Thursday, May 10, 2007, at Craig General Hospital in Vinita, Oklahoma.
He was born June 14, 1922, in Stark, Kansas, to Arnold and Jenny (Stevenson) Smith. As a young boy, he grew up in Stark, graduating from Stark High School. During World War II he served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Antietam. Following his discharge, he was employed at Beechcraft in Wichita. He later was owner/operator of a dry cleaning service in Erie before becoming a rural route mail carrier.
He and Ann Mudd were married on May 25, 1946, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Walnut, Kansas. She survives of the home.
He loved his farm and horses. He was a member of the St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Erie and the American Legion. He had served as a city councilman and democratic committeeman.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Richard Smith and Robert Smith; one sister, Marjorie Imbler; and three infant children.
Following cremation, a memorial funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, May 15, 2007, at the St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Erie. Private family burial will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery in Walnut. The rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m., Monday, May 14, 2007, at the church. The family will receive friends following the rosary.
