He was born on October 19, 1931, to Oswald Karl and Ida Lina (Conrad) Wenzel in Capron, Oklahoma. He grew up and attended school in the Kiowa, Kansas, and Burlington, Oklahoma, area and graduated from Burlington High School in 1949. Following high school, Harold served as an MP in the United States Army in the Korean War. Two of his three brothers had also served the United States in various wars.
In 1954, Harold was discharged from the army and returned to the family farm. He worked on the farm and also worked with his father and brothers building houses and doing carpentry work in the Kiowa area. On August 21, 1958, he and Dolores Brainard were united in marriage. The couple were successful farmers and Harold proudly served on the OK Co-Op Board of Kiowa for 18 years. Dolores preceded him in death on May 18, 1985.
Harold and Virginia M. (Williams) Moore were united in marriage on April 21, 1990. Having no children of his own, Virginia's children were happy to claim him as their "step-up-dad." The couple continued to farm until they retired. In 2008, they moved to Altamont.
An outdoorsman at heart, Harold enjoyed wildlife, especially watching and feeding birds and squirrels and spending time with his dogs. He was also an avid John Wayne fan and collected John Deere memorabilia.
