Harvey E. Gaither, 76, of Joplin, Missouri, formerly of Parsons, Kansas, went to be with his Lord and Savior at 7:09 a.m., Tuesday, May 27, 2014, while surrounded by his loving family at his home.
He was born August 28, 1937, in Waldron, Kansas, to Harvey Eugene and Elsie Florence (Doebbeling) Gaither. He was a 1955 graduate of Anthony High School and in 1957 graduated from Wichita Business College.
On August 12, 1956, he and Rose Armstrong were married in Anthony, Kansas. Following marriage, the couple made their home in Wichita. They moved several times until settling in Parsons in 1977 where he worked at Sun Graphics as treasurer until retiring in 2001. While living in Parsons, they were active members of the First Church of the Nazarene. Following his retirement, they moved to Joplin where they were currently attending the Villa Heights Christian Church.
Harvey enjoyed volunteering at many area ministries and never passed up an opportunity to serve, especially those that had served our country in the military.
Survivors include his wife, Rose Gaither, of the home; three daughters, Malinda Oeding, of Kansas City, MO; Susan Huitt and her husband, Chris, of Pittsburg, KS; and Linnet Stammer and her husband, Kelly, of Parsons, KS; seven grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren and one due in December; and two sisters, Shirlee Hoopes, of Anthony, KS, and Jeanne Williams, of Bartlesville, OK.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Maurita Ellis.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, May 31, 2014, at Villa Heights Christian Church, 2650 E. 7th Street, in Joplin. The family will receive friends from 7-8:00 p.m., Friday, at Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home, 405 Main Street, in Parsons. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, at Springhill Cemetery near Parsons.
