Hazel L. Nevins

Hazel L. Nevins, 97, a former resident of Chetopa, died Friday, July 13, 2007, at White Settlement Nursing Home in Ft. Worth, Texas.

She was born August 12, 1909, in Bartlett, Kansas, to William M. and Sarah Ann (Vandermark) Brown. She grew up in southeast Kansas and was a 1927 graduate of Labette County Community High School in Altamont.

She and Earl Nevins were married in 1929. He preceded her in death July 7, 1978.

In her earlier years, she worked as a clerk at Dunn's General Store in Chetopa. For the past 60 years, she had lived in Ft. Worth. While living there, she had worked at Kenney's Shoe Store as a cashier. She was an active member of the River Oaks United Methodist Church in Ft. Worth where she had served as Sunday school secretary for 40 years. She was an avid golfer, a charter member of the Ft. Worth Ladies Golf Association and was an excellent seamstress.

She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers and four sisters.

Graveside services are scheduled for 1:00 p.m., Thursday, July 19, 2007, at the Lake Creek Cemetery near Bartlett, Kansas.
