Hazel I. Thiessen, 93, of Parsons, passed away at 8:45 a.m., Monday, November 10, 2014 at the Parsons Good Samaritan Society. She was born November 3, 1921 in Fairbury, Nebraska to Lyman Edward and Maggie Pearl (Baker) Jenkins. In 1929, her family moved to Salina, Kansas where she attended elementary school and later attended Rossville High School in Rossville, Kansas. On August 16, 1939, she and James A. Lunday were married. Following marriage, they lived near Erie. They later divorced. On July 17, 1978, she and Edward Thiessen were married in San Diego, California. The couple lived in South Mound, Kansas prior to moving to rural Parsons in 1978 where she has lived since. Mr. Thiessen preceded her in death on June 1, 1989. She was a member of the Westside Christian Church in Parsons. She enjoyed spending time with her family, visiting with friends, playing dominos, crocheting, playing cards, collecting postcards, taking pictures, and attending the Parsons Senior Center. She especially enjoyed having a big garden and sharing the afghans she had made with her family. Survivors include two sons, Kenneth Lunday and his wife, Shirley, Parsons, KS, and Wayne Lunday and his wife, Laura, Erie, KS; two daughters, Janice Giger, Parsons, KS, and Delores Findell, Mena, AR; ten grandchildren, Josh Findell, Maggie Jackson, Sarah Jane Tribble, Mary Hunt, Barbara Lunday, Becky Tough, Cara Hill, Christy Smith, Adam Giger, and Emily Giger; twenty-three great-grandchildren; ten great-great-grandchildren; and one niece, Dierdre Earley, and her three children. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Earl Lee Lunday in 1980; a son-in-law, James Giger; a granddaughter, Melinda Giger; two brothers, Raymond and Lee Jenkins; and her twin sister, Helen Tuff. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, November 15, 2014 at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery in Parsons. The family will receive friends from 7-8:00 p.m., Friday, at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the Wounded Warrior Project.
