Helen M. Bevins, 100, of Parsons, passed away at 12:05 a.m., Monday, September 20, 2021, at Elmhaven East Nursing Home.

Helen Marvalene Watts was born on May 31, 1921, to Frank and Hazel M. (Gray) Watts in Girard, Kansas. She grew up and attended school in Girard, graduating from Girard High School.

From 1947 to 1951, Helen was a checker at Safeway Grocery store. She worked at Parsons State Hospital and Training Center from 1957 to 1961. In 1972, she began a long and successful career as a consultant for Luzier Cosmetics.

Helen was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church in Parsons, where for two years she served as the secretary. She held memberships in the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary and the Atheneum Club. Over the years, Helen was active in and held leadership positions in the Business and Professional Women's Club; the Elk Ladies, an organization she helped establish; and the Labette Health Pink Ladies Auxiliary, a group she served in for over 25 years. Her greatest joy, though, came from spending time with her family.

On June 29, 1941, Helen and Charles L. Bevins were united in marriage at the Girard United Methodist Church. He preceded her in death on December 26, 2018.

Survivors include:

One daughter – Judy Tedstrom of Parsons

Two granddaughters: Kim Morrow and her husband, Phillip, of Tulsa, Oklahoma

Tina Slagle and her husband, Bobby, of Owasso, Oklahoma

Eight great-grandchildren: Landon Bevins, Kristina Covington, Karmen      Nystrom, Allie Slagle, Zoe Slagle, Kaley Slagle, Phillip Morrow and Garrett Morrow.

Six great-great-grandchildren: Ansley, Reagan, Gibson, Asher, Wyatt and Collins

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles; two sons, Gary J. Bevins and Brent A. Bevins; one grandson, Cord A. Bevins; and three brothers, Leo Watts, R. Dean Watts and L. Dariel Watts.

The funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, September 23, 2021 at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home with Pastor Pat McReynolds officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home from 1 to 8 p.m., Wednesday.

Following cremation, inurnment will take place at Memorial Lawn Cemetery in Parsons.

Memorials are suggested to Alzheimer's Association. These may be left at or mailed to Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home, P.O. Box 374, Parsons, KS 67357.
