Helen F. Brown, 93, of Chetopa, passed away at 6:55 a.m., Tuesday, January 4, 2022 at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Parsons.

Helen Fay Bassett was born October 24, 1928 in Chetopa, Kansas, the daughter of Edgar Roscoe Bassett, Sr. and Ada Mae (Bray) Bassett.  Helen grew up and attended schools in Chetopa including the Douglas Elementary School and Chetopa High School where she graduated in 1948.  Helen then attended nursing school at the University of Kansas Medical Center where she received her practical nursing license.  She worked for Dr. Alexander at Douglas Hospital in Kansas City and in labor and delivery.

Helen was united in marriage to Orville Brown in the 1950s.  To this union was born a daughter, Regina.  For a time, they resided in Kansas City until relocating to California.  Helen continued her nursing career after attending school in California.   Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Orville.

Helen was a devoted wife, mother, sister, aunt and friend.  She was very fondly thought of by all who met or knew her.  She enjoyed reading the Bible and was excellent at knitting and crocheting.   Helen loved music and playing the piano.  She also enjoyed collecting knickknacks and raising flowers.  Yellow was her favorite color

In the past, Helen had attended the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Coffeyville.

Two Sisters:  Lela Tucker of Kansas City, Missouri

Elizabeth Burnett of Chetopa, Kansas

Two Sisters-in-law:  Faye Bassett – Palo Alto, California

Jan Bassett – Visalia, California

Numerous Nieces and Nephews

In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Regina Brown; five brothers, Kenneth Bassett, Edgar Roscoe Bassett, Jr., Hubert Bassett, Richard Bassett and Bobbie Joe Bassett and five sisters, Mildred Brady, Margaret Grigsby, Ozella Edwards, Wanda June Brady and Maurica Bassett.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 12, 2022 at the Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Chetopa with Rev. Clarence Newman officiating.  Burial will follow at the Oak Hill Cemetery at Chetopa.  The family will receive friends from 12:00 Noon until service time on Wednesday.
