Helen M. Cannon-Brinkman, 74, of Parsons, died at 3:57 a.m., Wednesday, August 19, 2009 at the Freeman Hospital in Joplin.
She was born January 14, 1935 near Neodesha, Kansas to Leonard L. and Mabel H. (Steele) Lever. She grew up and attended school in Neodesha and then graduated from high school in Imperial Valley, California.
She was married to Ben Cannon on August 18, 1951 at Springdale, Arkansas. He preceded her in death on July 1, 1974. She then was married to Gerald Brinkman. They later divorced.
Over a period of 28 years, she had moved 64 times and finally settled in Parsons in 1978. She was a cook at the Parsons State Hospital and Training Center until her retirement.
She loved reading and was addicted to jigsaw puzzles. She also loved her dog, Joker. She had also worked with Cub Scouts for a short time. She was a member of the Friendship Baptist Church in Parsons. She was also a member of AARP and had been a member of the Machinist Union for a time.

Two Daughters: Ronna Howerton and her husband, Kevin – Gas, Kansas
Donita Boone and her husband, Kevin – Parsons, Kansas
Seven Grandchildren
Nine Great-grandchildren
One Brother: Lester Lever and his wife, Patty – Wichita, Kansas
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother and one son, Steve Cannon who died in 2005.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, August 22, 2009 at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 8 p.m., Friday.
