Helen A. Coomes, 88, of St. Paul, passed away at 10:25 p.m., Monday, January 10, 2022, at Prairie Mission Retirement Village in St. Paul.
Helen Ann Schoenhofer was born on December 27, 1933, to George E. and Mary Lyda (Fowler) Schoenhofer in Walnut. As a young girl she grew up in rural Walnut attending Prairieview Elementary and graduating from St. Francis High School.
For several years, Helen worked as the librarian at the Graves Memorial Library in St. Paul. Helen devoted her life to raising her family.
She was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church. Besides spending time with her family, Helen enjoyed square dancing, and gardening, especially flowers. She was an avid reader and quilter.
On November 7, 1953, Helen and Adrian "Dale" Coomes were united in marriage at St. Francis Catholic Church in St. Paul. He survives of the home.

One daughter – Victoria Ann Hammett of Springfield, Missouri
One daughter-in-law – Diane Coomes of St. Paul, Kansas

Five brothers – Joe Schoenhofer and his wife, Ruth Ann, of St. Paul, Kansas
Bill Schoenhofer and his wife, Nancy, of Erie, Kansas
Chris Schoenhofer of St. Paul, Kansas

Ed Schoenhofer of Kansas City, Kansas
Four sisters – Margaret Tallman of Denver, Colorado
Pat Moore of Parsons, Kansas
Doris Bennett and her husband, Gerald, of Wichita, Kanas
Joan Unruh of Phoenix, Arizona
She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Scott Coomes in 2011; two brothers, Don Schoenhofer and J.D. Schoenhofer; and one sister, Agnes Paulie.
The funeral Mass will be at 10:00 a. m., Saturday, January 15, 2022, at St. Francis Catholic Church in St. Paul. Burial will follow at St. Francis Cemetery. The rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m., Friday, at St. Francis Catholic Church. The family will receive friends following the rosary.
