Helen Katherine Davis, 89, of Chetopa, died at 11:10 p.m., Wednesday, February 20, 2008, at Freeman West Hospital in Joplin. She had been in failing health and had resided at Oswego Health Care and Rehabilitation since January of this year.
She was born February 26, 1918, in Chetopa, to John and Janie (McDaniel) Sherwood. She grew up and attended school in Chetopa.
She and George Davis were married in 1944. They later divorced. She and Gerald Pierce were married in 1955. They later divorced.
Helen raised her children southwest of Coffeyville, near Knoxie, Oklahoma. She worked at Newberry's in Coffeyville and raised cattle and crops on her farm before moving back to Chetopa, in 1973, to care for her mother. For a time, she also worked at Chatam Pottery in Oswego.
She enjoyed working in her yard and raising flowers, fishing, visiting friends, neighbors and family, and helping wherever and whenever she could.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, three sisters and two stepsons, Bobby and David Davis.
Graveside services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Monday, February 25, 2008, at Oak Hill Cemetery in Chetopa. The family will receive friends from 7:00 – 8:00 p.m., Sunday, February 24, 2008, at the Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Chetopa.
