Helen M. Heady, 88, of Parsons, passed away at 12:36 a.m., Thursday, April 30, 2020, at Elmhaven East Nursing Home.
Helen Marie Blaes was born on July 17, 1931, to Leo V. and Helen Augustine (Miller) Blaes in Parsons. As a young girl, she grew up and attended schools in Cherryvale and was a 1950 graduate of Cherryvale High School. She also attended Parsons Junior College.
Following high school, Helen moved to Parsons, where she lived with her grandmother and worked at Mercy Hospital for three years in obstetrics and surgery. She then worked at the Parsons Clinic for 15 years as a medical assistant.
On December 10, 1959, she and Paul D. Heady were married in Garden City, Kansas. They made their family home near Parsons where they raised their three children. They later divorced.
After her children were raised, Helen worked as a domestic housekeeper for 32 years. She was especially well-known for her homemade chicken and noodles.
Helen was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church and its Altar Society. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, crocheting, playing cards and especially spending time with her family.

One son – Paul M. Heady and his wife, Karen, of Wichita
Two daughters – Mary D. Rodie and her husband, Kenny, of Parsons
Connie M. Taylor and her husband, Mikael, of Florence, Kentucky
One granddaughter – Samantha Woods and her husband, Shawn, of Wichita
One great-grandson – Sullivan Woods
One brother – Raymond Blaes and his wife, Philamino, of Cherryvale
Two sisters – Harriet Johnson of Chicago, Illinois
Collen LaForge and her husband, Bill, of Independence
Numerous Nieces and Nephews

She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Donald, Robert and William "Bill" Blaes; and one sister, Marjorie Burns.
There will be a graveside service at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, May 5, 2020, at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Parsons. Friends are welcome to sign the register and view Mrs. Heady 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Monday, May 4, 2020, at Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons.
