Helen Ida (Rohling) Simon, 92, of Parsons, died at 6:45 a.m., Sunday, February 3, 2013, at Elm Haven West Nursing Home in Parsons. She was born July 9, 1920, in Andale, Kansas, to Frank and Catherine (Gorges) Rohling. As a young girl, she grew up and attended schools in Colwich, Kansas. She and Aloysius William "Al" Simon were married May 7, 1941, in Colwich. Following their marriage, they farmed in the Colwich area. They later farmed near Fredonia before moving to their farm in rural Parsons in 1959. Through the years, she had worked at Swift and Company, Fred Ronald Manufacturing Company and Wal-Mart. She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church and, in earlier years, its Altar Society. Helen was a devoted mother who loved her family dearly. She was an accomplished seamstress, enjoyed crocheting, and loved caring for her flowers and garden. Survivors include: Six Sons – David Simon and his wife, Mary Eureka, KS Bill Simon and his wife, Bonnie Eudora, KS Richard Simon and his wife, Jackie Loveland, CO Ernie Simon and his companion, Belinda Schuman Eudora, KS Jim Simon and his wife, Mildred Erie, KS Glen Simon and his wife, Susie Bentley, KS Three Daughters – Mary McKinney and her husband, Dwaine Wichita, KS Joan Hizey and her companion, C.J. Wass Parsons, KS Janet Kinsch and her husband, Jerry Parsons, KS Twenty Grandchildren Forty-Four Great-Grandchildren One Great-Great-Granddaughter Two Brothers – Frank Rohling Angola, KS Walt Rohling Derby, KS She was preceded in death by her husband, Al Simon, on October 5, 2004; two sons, Eugene and Kevin Simon; two grandchildren, Jared Kinsch and Amanda Simon; and one great-granddaughter, Samantha Simon. The funeral Mass will be at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, February 9, 2013, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Parsons. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. The Rosary will be prayed at 6:30 p.m., Friday, February 8, 2013, at Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons where the family will receive friends immediately following the Rosary. Memorials are suggested to St. Patrick's Catholic Church. These may be left at or mailed to Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home, P.O. Box 374, Parsons, KS 67357.
