Helen Marie Vitt, 92, of St. Paul, died at 12:27 p.m., Saturday, March 29, 2014 at Prairie Mission Retirement Village in St. Paul.
She was born December 1, 1921 in St. Paul, Kansas to George Henry and Helen Cecilia "Nellie" (Judge) Vitt. Helen grew up in St. Paul where she was a 1939 graduate of St. Francis High School. Following high school, she taught six years at Hilton School in a one-room schoolhouse near St. Paul. She then attended Ft. Scott Mercy School of Nursing and worked as a registered nurse in Ft. Scott after earning her nursing degree in 1949. From 1962 through 1984, Helen worked as a registered nurse at the Parsons State Hospital and Training Center.
She was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church in St. Paul, its Altar Society and Daughters of Isabella. She received great pleasure in helping others and enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. Following retirement, she had also worked part-time for both Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home and Carson-Wall Funeral Home.
Survivors include four brothers, John F. Vitt and wife, Eileen, of Dallas, TX, Paul Vitt and wife, Cecilia, of Bartlesville, OK, Bernard Vitt and wife, Barbara, of Tulsa, OK, and Don Vitt and wife, Vera, of St. Paul, KS; and numerous nieces and nephews, Mike Vitt, Janet Vitt, Cindy Vitt-Murphy, Elaine Vitt, Leo Vitt, Martin Vitt, Francis Vitt, Dennis Vitt, Marvin Kavanagh, Roberta Leon, Christine Vitt, Theresa Vitt, Marilyn Lappin, Carolyn McCaullgy, Linda Moesta, Debbie Vitt-Wayman, Larry Vitt, Danna Vitt, Kim Harrison, Jeff Vitt, Jim Belfield, Steve Belfield, Robin Carson, Dawn Pointer, Delyna Bohnenblust, Gayla Land and Ranetta Bertoncino.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Walter Vitt; one sister, Gretchen Belfield; and two nephews, Ronnie Vitt and Alan Vitt.
The funeral Mass will be at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 2, 2014 at St. Francis Catholic Church in St. Paul. Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery. The Rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, at the church. The family will receive friends following the Rosary in the Parish Hall.
