Henry J. Rohmiller, 99, of Chetopa, died at 8:55 p.m., Thursday, January 18, 2007 at the Chetopa Manor Nursing Home.

He was born January 20, 1907 in Dewey County, Oklahoma to Nick and Martha (Uhl) Rohmiller. As a young boy, he attended Fields County School in Craig County, Oklahoma and later Welch High School in Welch, Oklahoma.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1943-1945 as a corporal in the Military Police and was later transferred to Colorado to work in a military hospital. Following his discharge from the service, he moved to Chetopa where he farmed until he retired. After retirement, he began working for Boilermakers Construction until 1970.

He was a life member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Chetopa and the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed fishing, working crossword puzzles, watching sports on television and hosting the annual family fish fry. He also served as caretaker for St. Rose Cemetery in Chetopa for a number of years.

On October 23, 1932, he and Verna Moore were married at Mt. Vernon, Missouri. She preceded him in death on May 10, 2002.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by five brothers, John, Frank, Andrew, Harold and Clarence Rohmiller; and two sisters, Ann Shields and Esther Lester.

Funeral mass is scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, January 24, 2007 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Chetopa. Burial will be in St. Rose Cemetery in Chetopa. The rosary will be recited from 7:00 – 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 23, 2007 at Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Chetopa. The family will receive friends following the rosary.
