Herman J. Ludwig, 91, of rural Parsons, passed away at 10:25 a.m., Friday, October 25, 2013, at his home.
He was born July 15, 1922, in Okarche, Oklahoma to Frederick Joseph and Kate Rose (Rother) Ludwig. He grew up in Okarche where he attended country school, Holy Trinity School and was a 1941 graduate of Okarche Public High School.
Following high school, he was accepted into the FBI in Washington, D.C. and attended George Washington University until his induction into the Army in December of 1942. He received an honorable discharge after having served in the Military Police in the China-Burma-India Theater for three years during World War II. In 1950, he moved to a farm near Parsons where he was a dairy farmer for approximately 30 years. After selling the cows, he continued to farm and raise beef cattle until his retirement.
After meeting on a blind date, he and Dorothea Louise "Dottie" Eck were married May 6, 1953 at the Fredonia Catholic Church. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary this past May.
He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Parsons, was a third degree member of the Knights of Columbus, and had volunteered at St. Vincent DePaul Society. He was also a member of Brown-Bishop Post No. 704, Veterans of Foreign Wars in Parsons. Through the years, he had served on the Dennis, Mound Valley and Rural Water District No. 2 boards. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, fishing and hunting.

Mark Ludwig and wife, Carol Parsons, KS,
Tom Ludwig and wife, Jill Carl Junction, MO;
One Daughter – Linda Noble and husband, Brian Bartlett, KS;
Thirteen Grandchildren – Jason Ludwig, Jared Ludwig, Melissa Ludwig, Taylor Ludwig, Danny Ludwig, Katie Miorandi, Ashley Ludwig, Shelby Noble, Heather Laywell, Michael Ludwig, Brandon Ludwig, Logan Ludwig and Chelsea Ludwig; and
Fourteen Great-Grandchildren
The funeral Mass will be at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 30, 2013 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Parsons. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. The rosary will be prayed at 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, at Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons where the family will receive friends immediately following the rosary.
