Hollis Juliann Simms, 86, formerly of Chetopa, died at 6:00 a.m., Monday, February 12, 2007, in Kansas City, Missouri, at the home of her daughter where she was currently residing.
She was born January 16, 1921 in Welch, Oklahoma to Lawrence M. Caldwell, Sr. and Lottie R. (Webb) Caldwell. She attended vocational school during the war where she learned to be a seamstress. She was employed by the Kansas Army Ammunition Plant in Parsons and later by Ace Electric in Kansas City, Missouri.
In 1960, she and Ted Simms were married in Kansas City, Missouri. He preceded her in death.
She loved to sing and enjoyed fishing. She was a member of the St. Paul United Methodist Church in Chetopa where she was an active member of the church choir.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by four brothers, four sisters, one son, Lawrence; and one daughter, Norma Jean Meredith.
Funeral services are scheduled for 1:00 p.m., Saturday, February 17, 2007 at the Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Chetopa. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m., Friday, February 16, 2007 at the funeral home.
