Howard L. Blundell, Jr., 64, of Columbus, formerly of Chetopa, died at 3:42 p.m., Monday, November 19, 2012, at the VA Medical Center in Oklahoma City.
He was born June 10, 1948, in Chetopa, Kansas, to Howard Blundell, Sr. and Goldie Maxine (Baker) Blundell. He graduated from Chetopa High School in 1967 and later earned an Associate degree from Labette Community College. During the Vietnam Conflict, he served in the United States Army.
Through the years he had worked at Bill Patch Coal Company in Welch, Oklahoma; the Kansas Port of Entry, Alrac Electric, the Kansas Army Ammunition Plant, Guinn Oil Company in Chetopa, and most recently, Plumb and Square Construction.
He was a member of the Columbus Christian Center.
Howard had served as mayor for the City of Chetopa and had also served as City Councilman. He was a member of the Chetopa Masonic Lodge and had served on the Chetopa Volunteer Fire Department for numerous years. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, fishing, building things and politics.
He and Vicki Graham were married in 1971. They later divorced.

One Son – Eric Blundell and his wife, Heather Oswego, KS
One Daughter – Sabrina Johnson and her husband, Jesse Columbus, KS
Six Grandchildren – Derrick Cassell, Mason Blundell, Hayleigh Johnson, Kamdyn Blundell, Teaghan Blundell and Austin Chesnutt.
Three Brothers – Gary Blundell Oswego, KS
James Blundell Chetopa, KS
Christopher Blundell Wichita, KS
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Lindsay Blundell; and grandson, Mark Carter, III.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, November 27, 2012, at the Oswego Christian Church. Burial will be in Ft. Scott National Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-8:00 p.m., Monday, at the church.
