Howard D. Guinn

Howard D. Guinn, 92, of Chetopa, died at 11:18 a.m., Friday, February 21, 2014 at Mercy Hospital in Joplin, Missouri.

He was born on March 3, 1921 at Bluejacket, Oklahoma to Hunley S. and Mary I. (Buttram) Guinn. He grew up and attended school there. During World War II, he served in the United States Army and served in the European Theater. Following the war, he lived for several years in Welch, Oklahoma and farmed for a time. Later, he worked for Continental Can and also for the McDonnell-Douglas Aircraft Company in St. Louis for a time. Later he moved to the Chetopa, Kansas area and worked for a time for Weddings IGA grocery in Chetopa and also worked for a time as an electrician and for the H.D. Lee and Glen Berry Garment factories.

He enjoyed woodworking and hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed music, especially playing the guitar and singing. He was a member of the Community Bible Church in Chetopa.

He was first married to Isabell E. Oney on August 6, 1943. She passed away in 1994. He later married Erma J. Oney on February 18, 1995. She survives of the home.

Additional survivors include two sons, Floyd Guinn and his wife, Kristi of Parsons, David Guinn of Chetopa; two daughters, Barbara Rexwinkle and her husband, Ivan of Chetopa and Florence Curtis of Joplin, Missouri; Stepson, Ron Seaman of Chetopa; 18 Grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents and his first wife, he was preceded in death by three brothers, five sisters, a daughter, Virginia Moses and a granddaughter, Shelly Moses, who died in 1970 as well as a step-son, Freddy Seaman.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, February 24, 2014 at the Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Chetopa. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery at Chetopa with Military Honors given by the American Legion Funeral Detail from Miami, Oklahoma. The family will receive friends from 3-5:00 p.m., Sunday, at the funeral home.
