Hubert James Turner, 85, of Joplin, Missouri and formerly of Chetopa, Kansas, passed away at 12:30 a.m., Sunday, November 15, 2015 at Galena Nursing Center.
He was born December 21, 1929 in Eudora, Kansas to James Andrew Turner and Ollie Etta (Mathia) Turner. He grew up and attended rural schools near Lawrence, Kansas.
For most of his adult life, Hubert worked as a farmer and mechanic. He also worked for a time at the Kansas Army Ammunition Plant and later as a mechanic and manager for over 28 years at Webster Auto Supply in Chetopa and Oswego.
He was a member of the former Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Chetopa. He enjoyed his work, fishing, hunting, traveling, and spending time with his family and friends.
He and Betty Comstock were married in 1949. They later divorced. On October 7, 1994, he and Mary Lou (Swanwick) Addis were married in Miami, Oklahoma. She preceded him in death on February 17, 2014.

Eight Grandchildren – Mike Holden, Brandi Carlson and her husband, Larry, Christopher Turner, Kielyn Turner, Dana Born, Joel Williamson, Katy Gorentz, and Lucas Gorentz
Seven Great-Grandchildren – Maci Carlson, Tyce Carlson, Benjamin Turner, Trent Born, Cooper Born, Chloe Born and Drake Bennett
Four Step-grandchildren – Shanna Schofield, Katie Littlejohn and her husband, Jay; Jake Stine, and Emilee Truelove
Two Step-Great-Grandchildren – Delaney Schofield and Shine Truelove
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by an infant brother, Noble Turner; and three sisters, Emma Todd, Gladys Harness, and Ona Cornwell.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, November 20, 2015 at the Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Chetopa. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Chetopa. The family will receive friends from 7-8:00 p.m., Thursday, at the funeral home.
