Iris M. Turner, 77, of Parsons, passed away at 2:36 p.m., Monday, December 18, 2023, at Advent Health in Shawnee Mission, Kansas, after a courageous battle with breast cancer.
Iris Mae McDaniel was born on June 27, 1946, to Edward W. and Dottie (Lindsey) McDaniel. She grew up and attended school in Parsons, graduating from Parsons High School.
Iris was a loving mother of four and adoring wife to husband, Jimmie Turner. She had a successful career as a Head Start Coordinator, HUD Account Executive, and a paraprofessional for USD 503 schools. She was admired by her colleagues and made a significant impact on the lives of so many that she touched.
Spending time with family and friends was Iris's greatest joy. She enjoyed shopping for great deals, playing her scratcher tickets and visiting with friends. Her boundless energy kept her on the move, but she managed to make time each day for her beloved Stories, Family Feud, and Wheel of Fortune. You could always count on Iris to lend a helping hand and she was a devoted member of the Watson Memorial Chapel Church of God in Christ in Parsons.
Iris and Jimmie "Teach" Turner were united in marriage in Parsons. He survives of the home.
Other survivors include: One son - Kevin McDaniel of Grandview, Missouri; Two daughters – Leandrea Kay Banzet of Bonner Springs, Kansas, and Robyn Hobson (Mark) of Shawnee, Kansas; Daughter-in-law – Jamie McDaniel of Dennis, Kansas; Bonus son – Al Denton of Parsons, Kansas; 18 grandchildren; Six great-grandchildren; One brother – Dale Wofford of Grand Rapids, Michigan; Two sisters – Altheria Wofford of Grand Rapids, Michigan, and Antoinette Wofford of Grand Rapids, Michigan; and Bonus brother – Kenneth Williams of Rock Island, Illinois
She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward W. McDaniel and Dottie Lindsey; her son, Delbert McDaniel; many siblings and her aunt, Iris Mae Card.
The funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, December 23, 2023, at Watson Memorial Chapel Church of God in Christ, 2215 Appleton, Parsons, KS. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Parsons.
