Ivan E. Whetstone, 76, of rural Cherryvale, died Monday, April 1, 2013, at his home.
He was born June 12, 1936, in Parsons, Kansas, to Elmer H. and Norma B. (Kinnison) Whetstone. He grew up in the Big Hill area in rural Labette County and attended Labette County Community High School in Altamont.
Following high school, he served in the United States Army and later the Army Reserve until retiring. Through the years, he worked at JRB, the Kansas Army Ammunition Plant and Beachner Construction. He also worked as a self-employed heavy equipment operator and was instrumental in the construction of Big Hill Lake.
He was a member of the Big Hill Coon Hunting Club, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Elks - BPOE Lodge No. 527, and was a former member of the Sunflower CB Club. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and raising mules.
He and Edna McManus were married. They later divorced. He and Betty (Mudd) Schultz were married February 2, 1974. They later divorced.

He was preceded in death by one son, Earl Whetstone.
FUNERAL SERVICES will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, April 4, 2013, at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons. The family will receive friends from 7-8:00 p.m., Wednesday, at the funeral home. Cremation will take place following the service.
COMMITTAL SERVICE INFORMATION:
Mr. Whetstone's family and friends will meet at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, April 6, 2013, at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home, 405 Main, in Parsons, to go in procession to the family farm for committal services and military honors presented by Brown-Bishop Post No. 704, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Parsons.
