J. Maxine Barton

July 25, 1917 — June 19, 2010

J. Maxine Barton, 92, of Parsons and a longtime Pittsburg resident, died at 6:40 p.m., Saturday, June 19, 2010 at Labette Health in Parsons.

She was born July 25, 1917 at Edna, Kansas to George W. and Clara M. (Rexwinkle) McRae. She grew up and attended school there and graduated from the Labette County High School in 1934. She was married to Galen W. Barton on May 9, 1953 at Independence, Kansas. He passed away on June 23, 1984.

For over 40 years she was a house mother to foreign students attending Pittsburg State University as she housed them in her home. After living in Pittsburg for 58 years she moved to Parsons where she had lived since.

She was a member of the South Broadway Baptist Church in Pittsburg and had attended there most of her adult life. She was also a member of the Crawford County Genealogical Society and the Old Fort Scott Genealogical Society.



Survivors include several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by four sisters and four brothers.



Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons where friends may call at the funeral home after 1:00 p.m., Tuesday.
