Jack H. Schuneman, 76, of Altamont, passed away Tuesday, February 8, 2022, at the home of friends in rural Edna, following a courageous battle with cancer.
Jack Herman Schuneman was born on October 31, 1945, to Herman William and Elia Mae (Smith) Schuneman in Tonkawa, Oklahoma. In 1963, he graduated from Udall High School in Udall, Kansas.
Over the years, Jack worked as a ranch hand and farrier at ranches in Potwin, Beaumont and Leon areas. For 15 years, he was the assistant manager at Woods Lumber in El Dorado, Kansas.
Jack had a way with animals and trained many horses and hunting dogs over the years. An avid outdoorsman, he had a passion for hunting and fishing. His greatest joy came from spending time with his family and friends.
On November 28, 1964, Jack and Sara Lynn Nichols were united in marriage in Rock, Kansas. The couple later divorced.
Survivors include:
One daughter – Melinda Slayden and her husband, Michael, of Winfield, Kansas
Three grandchildren – Jack C. Additon and his wife, Elissa; Kelsey Wonser; and Tristan Slayden and his wife, Morrigan, all of Winfield, Kansas
Two great-grandchildren – Tyler Additon and Delia Wonser, of Winfield, Kansas
One brother – Don Schuneman of Wichita, Kansas
One sister – Anita Williams of Corpus Christi, Texas
The graveside service will be at 1:00 p.m., Friday, February 18, 2022, at the Udall Cemetery in Udall, Kansas.
Memorials are suggested to the Grace Baptist Church of Altamont. These may be left at or mailed to Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home, P.O. Box 374, Parsons, KS 67357.
