Jack D. Wilkinson, D.C., 84, longtime Doctor of Chiropractic of Chetopa, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at 11:08 p.m., Wednesday, January 29, 2014 at Chetopa Manor Nursing Home.
He was born August 4, 1929 in Parsons, Kansas, the son of Jack A. and Iola Irene (Erickson) Wilkinson. He was a member of the Labette County Community High School Class of 1949. He then attended Kansas State Chiropractic College in Wichita.
While serving in the United States Army, he spent 37 months in the Far East in the Medical Corps. Upon his return to the United States, he was blinded in a motor vehicle accident and received a medical discharge in September of 1951 at which time he returned to Southeast Kansas. He and Betty Fox were married January 8, 1954 in Labette City. For nearly 40 years, he had a successful chiropractic business until retiring in July of 1996.
He was a charter member of the Community Bible Church in Chetopa. He was also a member of the Chetopa Chamber of Commerce, Chetopa Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Veterans, Chetopa Jaycees and the Chetopa Lions Club where he had served as president. He enjoyed listening to audio books, reading, collecting things, and taking short trips with his family. He loved writing poems and songs and playing his guitar, banjo and ukulele. In earlier years, he and Betty had authored "Sand and Thistles", "Smilo Greeny", a children's book; and "Big Nose Mountain".

Four Great-Grandchildren – Darci "Desiree" Wilkinson, Damon "Diamond" Wilkinson, Delaney Jarrett and Brady Jarrett
He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Kae Dee Wilkinson.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, February 3, 2014 at the Community Bible Church in Chetopa. Burial will be in Oswego Cemetery with military honors given by American Legion Post 147 Funeral Detail of Miami, Oklahoma. Friends may call at their convenience from 12:00 noon through 8:00 p.m., Sunday, at the Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Chetopa.
