Jake Penner, 89, a longtime resident of Edna, passed away at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, March 21, 2018 at his son's home in Cook Station, Missouri.
He was born February 17, 1929 in Hillsboro, Kansas to Frank and Sarah (Zieike) Penner. He grew up and attended schools in the Fresno, California area.
On November 22, 1950, he and Florence Balzer were married in Inman, Kansas. Following marriage, the couple lived in Inman for four years before moving to Salina where Mr. Penner was employed in construction and farming. The couple lived in Salina for 27 years until moving to Sequoia National Forest where they worked for 2 ½ years in a Christian camp. In 1981, the family moved to Edna. He was preceded in death by his wife on March 25, 2000.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Edna.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Flora McKee, on September 12, 2011; three brothers, Frank, John, and Cornelius Penner; and five sisters, Sarah Penner, Margaret Bushman, Mary Entz, Minnie Haley, and Agnes Wall.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at the First Baptist Church in Edna. Burial will follow at Edna Elm Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-8:00 p.m., Monday, at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons.
