James R. Alexander, 76, of Republic, Missouri, entered into Heaven's Gates at 3:54 p.m., Wednesday, July 7, 2021, at University of Missouri Hospital in Columbia, Missouri.

James Robert Alexander was born April 2, 1945 in Belleville, Illinois, the son of Marshall Morgan Alexander and Ava Asalene (Ridenour) Alexander.  He grew up and attended schools in Belleville. Following high school, he entered the United States Army and served in Vietnam as an Army Medic.

On June 21, 1968, James was united in marriage to Charlotte L. Schultz in Joplin, Missouri.  Following their marriage, they remained in Joplin for about five years before moving to St. Louis where they lived for 21 years.  Then the couple moved to Macon, Georgia where they lived for 27 years until moving to their current home in Republic, Missouri in April of 2021.  James worked as a design draftsman for electrical engineering firms for many years.

He had a love of collecting classic cars, including 55, 56 and 57 Chevrolets.  James also enjoyed designing houses and other things for his family and friends.  He had been a member of Gideon's in the past.  He was a member of the Rock Springs Church in Milner, Georgia and later Macon, Georgia.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Charlotte, of the home; two sons, James Shawn Alexander (Sonia) of Republic, Missouri and Joel Sean Alexander (Jean) of Farmington, Missouri; three grandchildren, Caleb Alexander, Benjamin Alexander and Lillie McClard and one sister, Ruth Cathcart of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma.  He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and one sister.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, July 17, 2021 at the Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Chetopa.  Burial will follow at the Oakhill Cemetery in Chetopa with military honors given by the Brown-Bishop Post #704, Veterans of Foreign Wars in Chetopa.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:00 p.m., until service time on Saturday.  Friends may call to sign the register from 1:00 p.m., until 8:00 p.m., Friday.
