James Albert Griggs, 82, of Parsons, died at 2:10 p.m., Thursday, July 10, 2008, at the Good Samaritan Society in Parsons.
He was born August 13, 1925, in Altus, Arkansas, to Arvel William and Lillie (Hughes) Griggs. He grew up in Northwest Arkansas, attending schools at Wheeler and White Oak.
He was called to serve his country on March 9, 1944. He served in Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe and was awarded the Eamet Ribbon, Victory Ribbon and the Good Conduct Medal. On May 19, 1946, he received an honorable discharge from the U.S. Army.
He and Nina Ruth Murdock were married August 22, 1944. They had celebrated 63 years of marriage. She survives of the home.
He worked at the Kansas Ordinance Plant from 1946-1950. He later worked for Wallingford Trucking, Berkenmeir Trucking, Bill Brazel Trucking and retired from Bill Sneed Trucking.
He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and was attending the Parsons Assembly of God church prior to his death. He also was a member of Brown-Bishop Post No. 704, Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He enjoyed fishing and working in his shop. He especially enjoyed family get-togethers.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Monday, July 14, 2008, at Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after noon on Sunday.
