James Jeremiah "Jerry" Dunlay, 85, 1814 Stevens, died at 8:20 a.m., Saturday, March 8, 2003 at his home. His death followed a lengthy illness.
He was born August 4, 1917 in Kansas City, Missouri to Ray C. Dunlay and Esther (Mullin) Dunlay. He moved with his family to Parsons as a child and attended St. Mary's Grade School. He graduated from Parsons High School in 1934, Parsons Junior College in 1937, and Pittsburg State Teachers College in 1946.
He joined the United States Army Air Corps and served for four years during World War II. He was a Navigator on a B-24 in the 93rd Bomb Group of the Eighth Air Force.
He worked for O'Bryan Beverage, Sunflower Sales, and Eastern Distributing Company. He retired in 1981. He also owned and operated the Dunlay Liquor Store until 1991.
He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, and was an active member of the Knights of Columbus and was a past Grand Knight. He had served on the Wichita Diocesan School Board and held various Parish offices. He was also a member of the Brown-Bishop Post #704 Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the Elks Lodge. He was a former member of the Parsons Chamber of Commerce and the Lion's Club.
He and Alice Marie Casey were married on October 11, 1947 at St. Patrick's Church in Parsons. She survives of the home. They celebrated their 55th anniversary this past October.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Ray, and Jack.
Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, March 11, 2003 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church with Fr. Robert Wachter officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery with military honors given by the Brown-Bishop Post #704 Veterans of Foreign Wars. The Rosary will be at 6:00 p.m., Monday, March 10, 2003 at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home where the family will receive friends following the Rosary.
