James W. "Jim" Lane

March 16, 1929 — January 11, 2018

Afton

James Wilson Lane passed away on Thursday, January 11, 2018 in Grove, Oklahoma.

Jim was born March 16, 1929 in Parsons, Kansas to James Kennedy and Minnie R. (Shope) Lane. He grew up in Parsons, graduating from Parsons High School in 1947. Jim proudly served in the United States Navy from October of 1948 until his honorable discharge in September of 1952.

While on leave from the service in 1951, Jim met the love of his life, Rose. It wasn't long until they were married and relocated to Lawrence, Kansas so Jim could begin working on his Bachelor's degree. Two years later, the couple moved to Pittsburg where he received a Bachelor of Science Degree from Kansas State Teacher's College (Pittsburg State University). The pull of returning to Parsons was too much for him to resist. He soon convinced Rose, now expecting their first child, to return to Parsons to raise their family.

Jim worked for many years in the retail clothing business. He was a traveling salesman for seventeen years. He then joined the family business, Lane's, until he and Rose branched out, owning and operating "Rosie's Flowers" for more than a decade. Engagement in the community was always important to him. As a result, he spent many years involved in a variety of service and political organizations. All the while, he kept his eye on the success of an up and coming retail organization. When the opportunity was right, Jim couldn't resist. He worked the remaining two decades of his career for the Walmart Corporation. Jim would often remark that the most rewarding time in his life was traveling the country from coast to coast in a motorhome with Rose, exploring and enjoying time as a couple.

Jim is survived by his children, James W. Lane II and his wife, Terri (Jarvis) Lane, of Afton, Oklahoma, daughters Cynthia R. Lane and Michelle R. Sweeten, both of Kansas City, Kansas, John Manuel Lane and wife, Cindy (Shaffer) Lane, of Parsons; and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Jim was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Rose, of 64 years; his parents, James K. and Minnie R. Lane; his brother, Manuel S. Lane; and sisters, Thelma J. Lane and Virginia Reasor.

Private graveside services will be held by the family at a future date.

Memorials are suggested to Good Shepherd Hospice. These may be left at or mailed to Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home, P.O. Box 374, Parsons, KS 67357.
