James G. "Jim" Merrill, 71, of Parsons, died at 4:00 a.m., Friday, June 17, 2011, at Presbyterian Manor in Parsons. He had been in failing health.
He was born August 26, 1939, in Galesburg, Kansas, to James Franklin and Anna (Porter) Merrill. He grew up and attended school in the Galesburg area.
He worked construction most of his adult life and also for the City of Parsons in the Water Department for a time.
He enjoyed gardening, farming, reading, and spending time with his grandchildren.
He and Charlotte Farran were married. They later divorced.

One Son – James D. Merrill Parsons, KS
Two Daughters – Carol Merrill Parsons, KS
Lisa Merrill Parsons, KS
Four Grandchildren – Steven Merrill, Haley Riley, Anthony Lee & Olivia Lee
One Brother – John Merrill Georgia
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, one sister; and one son, Nick, in 1984.
Following cremation, graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 22, 2011, at McCune Cemetery under the direction of Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons.
