James H. "Jim" Scott, 71, of rural Dennis, passed away at 6:44 a.m., Monday, December 29, 2014 at the home of his son near Dennis.
He was born August 11, 1943 in Parsons, Kansas to John L. and Irene (Wright) Scott. He grew up in Dennis and was a 1961 graduate of Labette County Community High School in Altamont. Jim served in the United States Army Reserve.
On October 2, 1964, he and Elizabeth "Betty" McCauley were married in Miami, Oklahoma. Through the years, Jim worked for the M-K-T Railroad, the Union Pacific Railroad, and retired from WATCO Railroad, following 30 total years of service.
He loved spending time with his family and friends. He enjoyed elk hunting in Colorado, fishing, going to auctions, attending sale day at the stockyards, and being on the farm where he raised numerous animals including goats, pigs, cows, sheep and rabbits.
Survivors include his wife, Betty, of the home; two sons, Kevin Scott and his wife, Shelly, and Shannon Scott, all of Dennis, KS; one daughter, Julie Scott-Albro and her husband, John, Dennis, KS; ten grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; son-in-law, Mark Lundy, Gladstone, MO; two brothers, Johnny Scott and his wife, Mary, Ulysses, KS and Larry Scott and his wife, Margaret, Dennis, KS; and three sisters, Virginia Wisner, Augusta, KS, Jo Good and her husband, Don, Dennis, KS, and Sharon Kephart and her husband, Joe, Thayer, KS.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Kathryn "Kathi" Lundy on November 22, 2014; two sisters, Judy Scott and Gerry O'Leary; and a great-grandson, Luke Lundy.
Following cremation under the direction of the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons, no services are planned at this time.
