James D. Lawson

James D. "Jim" Lawson, 70, of Parsons, passed away at his home the morning of Thursday, February 3, 2022.

James Dale Lawson was born on February 23, 1951, to Clifford and Juanita Irene (Foreman) Lawson in Oswego, Kansas.  He grew up and attended schools throughout Kansas, graduating from Parsons High School in 1969.  After high school, he attended Labette Community College for a time.

For over 40 years, Jim worked at Tec Tank in Parsons, working his way up to Plant Manager and retiring in the position as Scheduler.

He was a member of the Elks Club in Parsons.

An avid sportsman, Jim enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling and softball.  He owned Jim's Plaza Pool in downtown Parsons for several years.  Traveling was a favorite pastime after his retirement.

On March 28, 1970, Jim and Peggy S. Covert were united in marriage in Parsons.  She survives of the home.

One son – Scott Lawson and his wife, Charleen, of Parsons, Kansas

One daughter – Danae Martin and her husband, Matt, of Ash Grove, Missouri

Six grandchildren – Taylor Lawson; Brynlie Humbard; Josh Fitzwater and his wife, Andee; Catie Martin; Emily Martin; and Abby Martin

Two great-grandchildren – Payton Fitzwater and Simon Fitzwater

His mother – Juanita Main of Parsons, Kansas

Several nieces and nephews, including Troy Carpenter, who he helped raise

One brother – Jerry Main of Parsons, Kansas

One sister – Dixie Tucker of Parsons, Kansas

He was preceded in death by his father and one brother, Terry Lawson.

The funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, February 12, 2022, at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons.  The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Friday, at the funeral home.
