James H. Mack, Jr.

James H. Mack, Jr., 84, of Parsons, died at 10:00 a.m., Monday, February 26, 2007, at his home. He had been in failing health.

He was born February 8, 1923, in Higbee, Missouri, to James Henry and Flossie Beatrice (Gaines) Mack. He attended schools in Ft. Scott, graduating from Ft. Scott High School. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, from May 1943 through November 1945, as a truck driver and baker. Upon his discharge, he was awarded three Bronze Stars and the Good Conduct Medal.

He and Nina C. Sanders were married in 1963 in Ft. Scott. They later divorced.

For a time he worked at Hull & Dillon in Pittsburg, Kansas. He later worked, for 20 years, at the Kansas Army Ammunition Plant before retiring in 1993. He loved to go fishing, enjoyed sports and was an avid drummer, having played for various bands. He cherished spending time with his children and grandchildren.

He was a member of the New Hope Baptist Church in Parsons.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 a.m., Friday, March 2, 2007, at the New Hope Baptist Church in Parsons. Burial will be in the Ft. Scott National Cemetery with military honors given by Olson-Frary-Burkhart Post No. 1165, Veterans of Foreign Wars. The family will receive friends from 7:00 – 8:00 p.m., Thursday, March 1, 2007, at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons.
